Short Calls

Short Call Profiles allow you to monitor and restrict outgoing short-duration calls on specific Peer Connections. This feature helps prevent potential abuse or inefficient use of your network resources by automatically restricting calls when certain thresholds are reached.

A short call is defined as either:

A call with a duration shorter than the maximum duration set in your Short Calls profile.
A call that is not answered.

Busy calls are not considered short calls.

When a Peer Connection exceeds the defined thresholds for short calls, further outgoing calls through that Peer Connection are restricted until midnight of the current day.

The Short Calls mechanism relies on Call Detail Records (CDRs). Due to potential issues such as network problems, Configurator downtime, or a full Router queue, some CDRs may not be successfully transmitted. This can result in some short calls not being counted, potentially affecting the accuracy of your call records.

Editing any threshold resets all existing counters.

You cannot delete a Short Calls Profile while it is attached to a Peer Connection.

To configure a Short Call Profile:
1. Navigate to Settings > Routing > Short Calls Profiles:

2. Click the icon; the following dialog box opens:

3. Configure the following parameters:

Field

Name

Use an intuitive and unique profile name.

Thresholds to Trigger Action

Short Call Duration Limit

Set the maximum number of seconds for a call to be considered short.

Min. Calls per Day

Define the minimum number of outgoing calls required to activate restrictions.

Short Call Percentage of Total Call

Set the percentage threshold that triggers restrictions.

Routing Action

Enable Routing Action

Click the toggle button to enable or disable routing actions. When disabled, only an alarm is triggered.

Lock Peer Connection for New Outgoing Calls

Select this option so that routers skip this Peer Connection when offering a routing path.

Drop New Outgoing Calls

Select this option so that the router drops calls by returning the action 'drop' to the SBC.

4. Click OK.
